Matt Damon has reportedly offered advice to his best friend Ben Affleck amidst ongoing speculation about the actor’s marriage to Jennifer Lopez.
The couple, affectionately known as Bennifer, rekindled their romance in 2021 after nearly two decades apart and married the following year. However, they've faced persistent speculation recently about a possible divorce, just two years after their wedding.
While neither Affleck nor Lopez has publicly addressed the speculation, sources claim that Damon tried to warn Affleck, 51, about potential issues when he reunited with Lopez, 54.
He reportedly told his Hollywood friend to "focus on his work". A source close to friends told DailyMail.com: “Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with J.Lo that this could happen. Matt helped Ben get it together after their first split, and he felt like this would happen again.
“As things started falling apart, Matt told Ben that he supports whatever choice he makes but wants him to focus on his work.”
The insider added that Affleck has always valued Damon’s opinion and has been “in awe” of his friend's long marriage to Luciana Barroso.
They continued: “Matt has had a successful marriage for years and Ben has always been in awe of this. Ben spent so much time focusing on J Lo’s projects just like he did the first time around. He told Ben, ‘What has she ever done for your career?’
“Matt is the only real guy friend Ben has.”
The Standard has contacted Ben Affleck and Matt Damon for comment.
Bennifer first dated in the early 2000s and were on the brink of walking up the aisle before their high-profile split in 2004.
Nearly 20 years later, they shocked the world by rekindling their romance in 2021 and then married the following July.
Adding fuel to the fire, the Jenny From The Block hitmaker recently “liked” a post about break-ups on social media.
It was previously reported that they are “living separate lives”.
Although the couple is not "officially separated," they have been spending time apart and are considering purchasing separate properties, it has been reported.
