In a wildly random turn of events, it was previously reported that before she was a Duchess Meghan Markle slid into X Factor star Matt Cardle’s DMs on Twitter.
But Cardle has since spoken out about claims that he ghosted her.
The singer explained in an interview on Lorraine, “It was so little then and if not nothing now.”
Cardle, who looked visibly uncomfortable, continued, “Yeah, like I say it was nothing, it was absolutely nothing. It’s just funny how something can be made up from nothing.”
But despite claiming it was "absolutely nothing", his initial response that it was "so little then" has caused further confusion.
It was reportedly previously that Cardle was a big Suits fan and began following Markle on Twitter because he thought “she was a beautiful star”. The brief exchange, which is said to have happened in early 2015, reportedly led to Markle following him back and while “it felt like there could have been a connection... the timing was wrong”.
The source said, “He was stunned when she followed him immediately back and started messaging him. She said she was a big fan of his work. Matt couldn’t believe a Hollywood star like Meghan would even know who he was so he was very flattered and they chatted a little bit online before she suggested meeting up.”
Cardle then began dating his current girlfriend, project manager Amber Hernaman, which reportedly led him to distance himself from Meghan. The source continued, “He met [Hernaman] and knew it wasn’t appropriate to keep talking to Meghan, so he ended up ghosting her… He didn’t reply to her last message.”
Whether it was true or not, Markle and Cardle have since moved on from their alleged DM exchange. Markle has married into the British Royal Family while Cardle has fallen in love with a woman who he credits with helping him stay sober.
Cardle is also set to play Pilate in an upcoming live production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which will be running at the Barbican between July 4 to August 24.
