Matildas breakthrough sensation Sharn Freier will join German powerhouse VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the A-League Women season.

Elsewhere, Socceroos defender Thomas Deng has signed for J1 League club Yokohama F. Marinos.

Brisbane Roar star Freier has earned her first overseas move off the back of top form for club and country.

The left winger, 23, has scored two goals in nine appearances for the Matildas.

This season, she has played alongside twin sister Laini Freier and notched four assists plus two goals, after two goals and five assists last season.

Wolfsburg are consistently among the Frauen-Bundesliga's top teams and won the Women's Champions League in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

"They are a very successful club with class players, so to be given the opportunity to be a part of something like that, I am extremely grateful," Freier said.

"This move will give me the opportunity to challenge myself and be a part of a full-time professional environment. I'm stoked for the next chapter and am looking forward to getting stuck in and meeting the team."

"My time at Brisbane Roar has definitely been such a highlight. Obviously, I signed my first contract with Brisbane and have been here ever since."

Deng, who has been in multiple Socceroos squads under both Graham Arnold and Tony Popovic, recently left Japanese club Albirex Niigata after three years and had been linked to an A-League Men return.

But the 27-year-old will remain in the J1 League at Yokohama, formerly coached by Ange Postecoglou and Kevin Muscat.

Former Melbourne Victory boss Patrick Kisnorbo recently joined Yokohama as first team coach.
