Matildas veteran Emily van Egmond is joining the Newcastle Jets for a four-game stint from this weekend.

The 30-year-old midfielder signed following the conclusion of the National Women's Soccer League season, where she represented semi-finalists San Diego Wave.

The new deal marks van Egmond's sixth stint at the Jets, with whom she made her professional debut as a member of the club's foundation squad in 2008.

It will be her first time linking up since her father Gary, a former Matildas assistant coach, took charge at Newcastle midway through last season.

Van Egmond is available for selection from Sunday's home clash with second-placed Melbourne City.

The Jets, currently eighth on the ladder, face Canberra United, Sydney FC and Western United in the other three games of van Egmond's cameo.

"The team and I are beyond excited to have Emily here with us for the next few games," said Jets captain Cass Davis.

"I believe that we have a number of talented young players in this squad and by having someone of Emily's stature involved in the team it will only benefit their development this season."

The fourth-highest capped Matilda of all time, van Egmond played in all seven games of Australia's home World Cup campaign this year.

Her experience up front was crucial early in the tournament when injury and concussion respectively hit Sam Kerr and Mary Fowler.

Van Egmond notably replaced the latter in the starting side for the loss to Nigeria and scored the opening goal late in the first half.

Van Egmond missed the Matildas' most recent game while on duty with the Wave, who finished atop the NWSL ladder for the first time this season.

In her absence, the Matildas ran out 3-0 winners over Chinese Taipei earlier this month.
