Matildas midfielder Alex Chidiac will return for a second season with Melbourne Victory in a major boost for their A-League Women title defence.

Chidiac will head back to Victoria following 18 games for Racing Louisville FC in the US National Women's Soccer League.

The former Atletico Madrid player starred in 14 games for Victory last season as they won a second-straight grand final.

"We're thrilled to be able to have Alex back for another season at Victory," football director John Didulica said.

"Her influence on the squad was immediate when she joined us in January, setting the standard on and off the pitch, and we believe she has more to offer coming into such an important period for women's football in Australia."

Chidiac will soon join the Victory squad ahead of their opening game against Western United on November 19.

"I'm excited to be heading back to Victory and I can't wait to link up with the team and get back to work in Australia," she said.

"I had a great experience with Jeff (coach Jeff Hopkins) and the squad last season, and I want to achieve more with this club and with this group this campaign."
