Matheus Nunes to Chelsea transfer latest: Liverpool stance, Boehly plan, Caicedo alternative

Chelsea have added Wolves star Matheus Nunes to their list of potential midfield acquisitions with Premier League rivals Liverpool also eyeing up a move.

The Portugal international joined Wolves in the summer from Sporting Lisbon and he has already racked up significant interest through impressive midfield displays. The West Midlands club acquired his services for a club-record £42.2million and they will likely demand more if they sanction a departure in 2023.

Blues' pursuit of a central midfielder in January remains without a successful result following reluctance from Benfica and Brighton to let Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo leave their respective clubs mid-season.

With that being said, football.london has rounded up everything we know regarding Chelsea's interest in the 24-year-old.

Chelsea add Nunes to shortlist

Graham Potter is in desperate need of a new midfielder joining Chelsea in 2023, preferably in January, with a number of Premier League options on the Blues radar.

The Telegraph are reporting that Matheus Nunes is now on that list of potential targets for Todd Boehly alongside Brighton star Moises Caicedo, Everton's Amadou Onana and West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

Liverpool stance

Jurgen Klopp is another Premier League manager needing to oversee a midfield rebuild and although Jude Bellingham is likely the clubs priority, a number of another names are on their list.

One of those is Matheus Nunes who could be the perfect replacement for Jordan Henderson, however it is unlikely the Reds make a move this month with a summer enquiry far more likely, as per Sky Sports.

2023 prediction

Speaking recently to Wolves’ official website, Nunes said: "I put more pressure on myself because I want to be the best, but I don’t think I did enough.

“I have the hunger now to get to where I want to be. I want to be better than I was in the last six months, and I think these first six months of 2023 are going to be better individually for me.
