Matheus Nunes has responded to 'life-changing offers' amid transfer links with Liverpool

Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim has revealed that Liverpool -linked Matheus Nunes has already rejected 'life-changing' offers to leave the club this summer.

The Portuguese playmaker has caught admiring glances from elsewhere in Europe following his impressive performances in Liga NOS. The 23-year-old scored four goals and notched as many assists in all competitions last term despite Sporting failing to keep hold of the title that they lifted in 2021.

Liverpool are among those clubs to have been linked with a swoop for his services, whilst Wolves and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest. The Blues are said to consider him as an alternative to major Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong.

Nunes appears unlikely to be on the move any time soon though, with four years remaining on his contract in his homeland, whilst manager Amorim has confirmed that the midfielder has already rejected a number of lucrative opportunities to move on.

As quoted by Portuguese outlet Record, he said: "I'm happy that Matheus Nunes is still here. I'm happy that Sporting's players, [such] as Matheus Nunes, reject offers that would change their lives to stay at Sporting.

"This is my reality, I am very happy with my squad and my players are the best in the world."

There were previous reports suggesting that Liverpool had prioritised the signing of Nunes as they aim to add more depth to their midfield. However, Jurgen Klopp has made the decision to wait until next summer to pursue a big-money addition. Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is thought to be at the top of their transfer shortlist.

The Reds have, of course, spent heavily in the summer market and have already turned to Portugal for one of their major additions. Striker Darwin Nunez arrived from Benfica for what could potentially be a club-record fee.

Meanwhile, youngsters Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho have been recruited from Aberdeen and Fulham respectively.

While the latter pair have had fleeting opportunities in pre-season, Nunez kicked his Liverpool career into life with a four-goal haul in a 5-0 thumping of German side RB Leipzig.

He will hope to continue that hot form in midweek as Liverpool take on Red Bull Salzburg in their final pre-season game before their Community Shield meeting with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City at the King Power Stadium. Before that, the Reds have been taking part in a pre-season training camp in Austria.

Injury doubts Alisson and Diogo Jota were absent from training in what will be a concern for Liverpool ahead of the new season.
