Mateusz Klich's textbook response to his five-year Leeds United anniversary

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has provided a typically amusing response on the five-year anniversary of his arrival at Elland Road. Klich joined the Whites on this day in 2017 from FC Twente and has since gone onto establish himself as an icon at the club, though not without its difficulties.

The 32-year-old made just one league start in his first season in West Yorkshire, where a costly error helped Cardiff City on their way to a 3-1 victory. He was then sent out on loan to FC Utrecht the following January, which appeared to signal the end of his career at Leeds.

That thought was reaffirmed even despite the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, as he was placed in the second squad for pre-season alongside many of the youngsters, which suggested he wasn’t in Leeds’ plans. However, his performances that summer ahead of the 2018/19 campaign was what completely turned his Leeds career on its head.

He was handed a start in Bielsa’s first game in charge against Stoke City, in which he opened the scoring in and never looked back. Klich has played a key role in all of Leeds’ last four seasons, helping the Whites return to the Premier League and stay there, with a third consecutive year in the top-flight to look forward to.

But in typical Klich fashion, he has instead decided to reflect on his difficult start to life in Leeds by blaming it on his choice of hairstyle. He wrote on his Twitter earlier today: “No wonder I didn’t play with that haircut.”
