Mateusz Klich’s Leeds United career is over after he and the club agreed to release him from his contract ahead of a move to Major League Soccer. D.C. United has been widely reported as the Poland international’s landing spot in the US.
The 32-year-old had 18 months left to run on his Whites deal, but the timing of this opportunity for more stability and a longer deal has forced the issue at Elland Road. Jesse Marsch has admitted he retains some doubts about the exit, but agreed this was a mutual decision on all sides.
Klich leaves West Yorkshire as a legend of Marcelo Bielsa’s era. The midfielder scored the first goal of the Argentine’s tenure in 2018 and proved to be a fixture in his line-up until his sacking last year.

With 193 appearances to his name, Klich leaves with only three members of the current squad on more. He is only three outings behind Eirik Bakke in the club’s all-time standings, but ranks ahead of Ian Baird, Robert Snodgrass and Mick Bates among many other long-serving custodians.
A club statement said: "Everyone at Leeds United would like to thank Mateusz for his efforts during his time at the club, his contribution is truly unforgettable. He has acted with the utmost professionalism throughout his time at Elland Road and will always be respected by everyone at the club.
"Mateusz leaves Leeds United as a champion and will always be welcome at Elland Road. We wish him all the best as he starts a new chapter in the USA."
