Mateusz Klich said an emotional goodbye to Elland Road on Wednesday night as the Leeds United midfielder’s move to the MLS edges closer. According to the reports across the Atlantic, a deal with DC United is now on the verge of completion, with the outing against West Ham United being his last in a Leeds shirt.
That became immediately obvious at full-time, after helping Leeds to a 2-2 draw, as he bid the Whites crowd an emotional farewell. The Poland international, who was a key player during the club’s Championship promotion season under Marcelo Bielsa, was mobbed by his teammates on the whistle.
Klich toured the pitch, clapping the fans and tears came from the 32-year-old as the supporters sang the midfielder's song. A video of his highlights in a Leeds shirt appeared on the stadium’s big screen and as he reached the South Stand, the club’s kitman could be seen handing out shirts with his face, name and number on them.

The squad then gathered to give the Pole a guard of honour and a standing ovation as he thanked the Leeds support for one final time, waved into the West Stand and disappeared down the tunnel. Klich has been linked away from Leeds for several months, but it seems he will make the move to DC United in the coming days in order to link up with Wayne Rooney.
Klich made 177 league appearances for Leeds, scoring 21 goals, with his last coming in a draw with Everton in August 2021.
