Management at the Mater Hospital are investigating how a convicted child abductor managed to pass Garda vetting and get a job at the hospital.
Despite convictions abroad for sexual corruption and abduction of a child and a five-year jail sentence for possessing child abuse material, Constantin Maxim, 48, had passed Garda vetting and started working as a cleaner at the hospital, the Independent reports.
A spokeswoman for the Mater told Dublin Live that Mr Maxim "was not employed directly by the hospital and we were not aware of the details of this case". She continued: "However, we can confirm that the company in which he was employed had followed all processes required for any individual to work onsite at the Mater, including Garda vetting.

"When the allegations came to light, the external contracting company removed the individual from the hospital while due process was followed. Given the seriousness of the crimes involved, the Mater Hospital is examining the issue further."
A spokesman for An Garda Siochana told Dublin Live: "An Garda Siochana cannot provide details of or comment on the personal information of any named individual. Vetting is carried out in accordance with the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012."
