Matalan under fire from shoppers over £20 Jubilee dress just days after Asda row

High-street retailer Matalan has found itself in a spot of hot water with its shoppers who are fuming after they shared a new summer dress.

The fashion chain were selling a blue 70s floral midi dress from their Papaya range and it has caused quite the stir with shoppers for the upcoming Jubilee.

It comes just days after Asda's own brand George came under fire from shoppers for their Union Jack duo dress that sold out in record time.

And, while Matalan's dress is not as bold as the Union Jack printed dress, it does have a more subtle nod to any garden parties you could have planned for the celebration.

Matalan shared a snap of their pretty £20 summer dress to their Facebook account, which would have been perfect for any upcoming garden parties to celebrate in the sunshine with a few cocktails.

They captioned their snap: ""Jubilee weekend is around the corner and this [is] the perfect garden party dress. Shop the £20 dress."

With the Platinum Jubilee just a week away, themed dresses are becoming all the rage and, of course, shoppers want to get their hands on one for the big day.

Unfortunately, like Asda's matching Union jack dresses, customers have also found themselves unable to get their hands on the 'pretty' Jubilee dresses. The Manchester Evening News reports that the dress has fully sold out in all sizes, with the exception being a size 10.

Suzanne Oliver wrote: "You keep putting lovely dresses on here, then when you look on the website they are never in stock, some never come back in stock, what is the point?!" Manders JG responded: "Agree 100%! Happens all the time and is annoying!!!"

Sarah Kate O'Connor said: "I hope it comes back in to stock." But for the most part, people were blown away by how 'pretty' the dress is.

Lucy Blackburn praised: "I have this. Its very soft and comfy." Jenny Stubbs said: "Love this dress."

Natasha Staddon commented: "Love that one." Annmarie Welch said: "This one's so pretty."

It comes just after Matalan faced similar criticism from shoppers, after they shared a snap of their £8 Union Jack duo dresses that were already completely gone.

Manchester Evening News has reached out to Matalan for comment.
