Masters star's club head snaps off but somehow stills flies ball past green on Amen Corner

PGA Tour star Hudson Swafford was dealt a comical equipment malfunction during the second round of The Masters, after the head of his club flew off the shaft mid-round. Swafford found himself in the centre of the fairway, hitting into the green on the par five 13th.

Things however did not go to plan for the American, after the club head from his iron flew off the shaft soon after he connected with his ball. Despite the broken head, it didn’t seem to hamper his ball flight as his approach hit the green, before trickling into the back bunker.

A surprised Swafford held his hands out wide in bewilderment, as his eyes quickly switched onto his club head bounding down the fairway instead of his ball flying towards the putting surface.

In spite of the club break, the three-time PGA Tour winner still managed to come away with par after chipping his bunker shot onto the green before two-putting for a five. The iconic Augusta course has no doubt proved a real test for the field, with the blustering Georgia wind causing all sorts of problems.

Swafford however has arguably put in the most impressive performance of the day in the tricky conditions, carding a superb three-under-par in his second round to leave him two-over for the tournament.

The American began his day in style, after carding back-to-back birdies on the second and third to give him the perfect start following a tough first day. Despite his quick start Swafford then gave one shot back after bogeying the fourth, before getting one back in the birdie column at eight.

Another birdie would then follow at the turn, as he added a three to his card on the par fourth 10th. A solid run of five straight pars would follow - including at 13 - before he added his fifth birdie of the day on the iconic par three 16th, after flying his tee shot within a few feet of the pin.

Swafford surrendered his birdie two one hole later, as he carded a frustrating bogey on the par-four 17th but kept his cool on the final hole an impressive three-under on Friday. His efforts in the second round means the American sits comfortably in the cut line, meaning he will be extending his Augusta stay over the weekend.
