Matthew Stafford’s name made an appearance on Sunday’s broadcast of the Masters, sharing something in common with eventual champion Scottie Scheffler.
Both Scheffler and Stafford – as well as Clayton Kershaw – went to Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas.
Scheffler, being about 9 years younger than Stafford, graduated from Highland Park in 2014 before attending the University of Texas, staying close to home. Stafford graduated early from high school and enrolled at the University of Georgia in 2006, spending three years in Athens as the Bulldogs’ quarterback.
And coincidentally, Scheffler won his first major championship less than two months after Stafford claimed his first Super Bowl ring.
Scheffler, 25, cruised to a three-shot win on Sunday afternoon, shooting 71 in the final round to beat Rory McIlroy – despite making a double-bogey on the 18th hole. Stafford and the Rams beat the Bengals by three points in Super Bowl LVI, winning 23-20.
