Masterchef viewers puzzled as contestant's combination dish 'step too far'

Masterchef viewers were puzzled by contestant Vanessa D’Souza's eclectic meal after the show returned to our TV screens. The challenge during Tuesday's (April 11) episode saw the competing chefs create dishes inspired by their favourite TV cooks, with the anti-piracy manager presenting the judges with a very unique chocolate, mushroom and blueberry pasta combination.

Inspired by fusion chef Ixta Belfrage, the unlikely mix of ingredients received varied feedback from the panel, but viewers criticised it as a "step too far", as reported by the Mail Online. Greg Wallace told the budding chef she had been "very daring with your ingredients" while John Torode described the dish as "really clever".

Viewers were put off by the unorthodox food, sharing their confusion on social media. "Blueberry and chocolate and mushrooms in pasta?" one viewer posted to Twitter.

Another posted: "Blueberries and pasta is a step too far' and one more declared 'pudding and pasta' was a total fail."

One fan said: "Blueberries, mushrooms and chocolate are when you make a meal out of what's left in the fridge."

Another asked: "Chocolate? And blueberry? In a pepper sauce? And Pasta? In one dish?"

However despite the less than glowing feedback Vanessa still made it through to the next round with Johnny being sent home. The show returned on Monday evening with Greg and co-host John judging the offerings of nine new hopeful amateur chefs.
