Gregg Wallace has told how he shed the pounds to “look better on the telly”.

The MasterChef star, 57, who weighed 16st 7lb at his heaviest, said of his dramatic body transformation: “It honestly wasn’t a struggle”, and adding he is now aiming for the body of a 20-year-old.

He told the Sun newspaper of his four stone weight loss: “My motivation at the start was, ‘I just want to look better on the telly’.

“But now it’s, ‘How fit can I actually get? Can I actually have the body of a 20-year-old at 60?’.

Wallace, who also presents the BBC’s Eat Well for Less?, lost four stone by cutting down drinking, cooking at home more and exercising regularly.

He said his weight loss made him feel more confident and attractive.

“I cannot begin to tell you the confidence boost it’s given me being a slimmer, fitter version of myself,” he told the paper.

“I feel more attractive, I’m nicer to be around and, let’s be honest, my wife Anna is 22 years younger than me and while I can’t change my age, at least I can change what I look like.”

The TV personality said the weight loss also made him feel like a better dad to three-year-old son, Syd, as “I’m the only one who is strong and fit enough to do aeroplanes with him.”

Wallace and his long-term co-presenter John Torode were both awarded MBEs after being recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours last month.

The pair were given the honour for services to food and charity.

In a statement at the time, Wallace, a former greengrocer, said it was “something akin to a fairytale story”.

“From a council estate in Peckham to being recognised by the Queen is for me something akin to a fairytale story. I am incredibly, incredibly proud,” he said.
