MasterChef's Gregg Wallace replaced for two episodes running as John Torode issues statement

When you think of MasterChef, presenting duo Gregg Wallace and John Torode come to mind. The hosts have been at the helm of the famous cooking series for more than 18 years.

However, during the latest two episodes of the show, John welcomed the contestants into the kitchen without his co-host. Gregg has been missing from the most recent instalments of knockout week due to sickness.

On Tuesday, May 17, Anna Haugh stepped into replace Gregg and on Wednesday, May 18, John told the contestants: "Welcome back to the MasterChef kitchen and congratulations, you seven, you are in knockout week.

"You may notice there's someone missing. Sadly, Gregg is unwell. So we have invited a special guest to help me judge.

"Somebody who knows this competition back to front. Ladies and gentlemen, could you please welcome... chef, restaurateur, and MasterChef Professional judge Monica Galetti."

Monica wasted no time getting down to business, telling the chefs: "I hope you're all excited to be here. I know I am. John has really hyped you guys up. Today, I want to see you cook a dish good enough to put on YOUR restaurant menu. Good enough to go into your own cookbook. Good enough for you to even put in a pop-up restaurant."

"I hope Gregg gets well soon," wrote one fan. "However, this episode of #MasterChef is better for his absence." While another added: "Enjoying the #MasterChef contestants barely containing their glee at not having to talk to Gregg."

The episode sadly saw Josh and Adam sent home while Omar, Chariya, Terri, Anurag, and Jack made it through to the next round. Next time the final 10 are back and just one challenge will stand between them and the semi-finals. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
