The Mastercard Gamer Academy, in partnership with G2 Esports and Riot Games, has announced the selection of 10 participants for its innovative program aimed at nurturing the next generation of esports professionals. From a pool of applicants spanning 75 countries, these 10 individuals, aged between 21 and 32, have been chosen to partake in a nine-month, all-expenses-paid initiative designed to provide them with unparalleled access to the world of competitive gaming.
The program, launched in November, offers participants a unique opportunity to receive mentorship, develop essential skills, and forge connections within the esports industry. The selected candidates will kick off their journey at G2 Esports' headquarters in Berlin this March, followed by a return trip in June for an intensive three-day boot camp. In August, they will travel to Seoul, South Korea, to attend the Valorant Champions event, before concluding their experience with a five-day immersion in London during November's League of Legends Worlds.
G2 Esports was chosen as a partner due to its strong commitment to promoting female representation in gaming, aligning with Mastercard's goal of fostering inclusivity within the industry. Notably, the Academy boasts a 60-40 split in favor of female participants, reflecting a concerted effort to support diversity and gender equality in esports.
Raja Rajamannar, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Mastercard, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing the Academy's dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for aspiring gamers. Rajamannar highlighted the exceptional opportunity awaiting the selected participants, who will have the chance to learn from industry experts, attend premier esports tournaments worldwide, and acquire valuable skills to pursue a successful career in gaming.
As the Mastercard Gamer Academy prepares to usher in a new cohort of gaming talents, the program stands as a testament to the growing prominence of esports and the industry's commitment to nurturing diverse talent and fostering innovation.
