Massive rains lash several states; Flood- like situation in Gujarat

Heavy rainfall disrupts routine life

New Delhi: Several parts of the country had significant rainfall specially in Gujarat where some areas are facing flood-like situation. Vadodara received the highest amount of rainfall measuring 28 cm, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Apart from Vadodara, Rajkot received 19 cm, Ahemdabad 12 cm, Bhuj and Naliya received 8 cm, Okha and Dwarka received 7 cm while Porbandar received 5 cm rainfall.

According to the data of the IMD, from 8.30 am, August 26 to 5.30 am August 27, various parts of Gujarat received a significant amount of rainfall.

In a social media post on X, IMD wrote, "A significant amount of rainfall observed from 0830 hrs IST of 26.08.2024 to 0530 hrs IST of 27.08.2024 (in cm): Gujarat Region: Baroda-28, Ahemdabad-12, Surat-4; Saurashtra & Kutch: Rajkot-19, Bhuj-8, Naliya-8, Okha & Dwarka -7each, Porbandar-5."

On Monday, several areas of Ahmedabad, Gujarat witnessed severe waterlogging due to heavy rainfall. People and vehicles were seen wading through knee-deep waters. Waterlogging also caused traffic snarls in several parts of the city.

West Bengal
Meanwhile, West Bengal also received a vital amount of rainfall with Bankura receiving 10 cm of rainfall while that of Diamond Harbour received 9 cm of rainfall. Alipore and Dum Dum regions of Kolkata received 6 cm and 4 cm rainfall respectively.

IMD also said that the Safdarjung area of Delhi received 2 cm of rainfall, as, last night, the city was lashed with moderate rainfall accompanied by moderate thunderstorms and lightning.

Meanwhile, in a press release issued by the IMD on Monday, it said that Gujarat would experience heavy to extremely heavy rain over the next 1-2 days.

Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan
It also issued a warning for East and West Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

"East & West Madhya Pradesh: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places very likely on 26th August. East & West Rajasthan: Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely on 26th August. Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely on 27th August," it added. (with Agency inputs)
