'Massive' police cordon in Nottingham after 'serious assault' in St Ann's

Police closed off a couple of streets in Nottingham following reports of a 'serious assault'. Officers were called to the junction of Ransom Road and Brewsters Road in St Ann's at 5pm on Monday, February 6.

A young man was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre with injuries which are not currently believed to be life-threatening, the force said. A large police presence will be in the area while detectives are carrying out work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Neighbours living in the area have spoken out over their shock as parts on Ransom Road and Brewsters Road have been cordoned off by police. Around four police cars were seen in the area, with a number of detectives arriving at the scene to carry out their inquiries.

Rosa Tyhurst, who has moved to the area from Bristol seven months ago, said: "As a single female who lives in the area, it does not make me feel great. I have got no idea what happened, but it is concerning."

The 33-year-old added: "This is a massive cordon and I live at the top of the road. It is annoying because I am tired, and I have to wake up early tomorrow for work and I cannot walk home this way.

"It is sad really, because I walk my dog up the road when it is nice and light. It just does not feel nice."

James Turton, a dad of three who lives in the area, said: "I saw an ambulance earlier today, but I did not think anything of it. I think police cordoned off the area at around 5pm.

"It was not until I saw the neighbours stood outside that I actually noticed it. As a parent, it is really concerning.

"I have to get my children to the school at the top of the road. It is shocking really."

The 30-year-old added: "Me and my partner were actually talking about that. It is worrying."

Simeon Owens, 25, who previously lived in St Ann's but moved to to Top Valley, said: "It is a massive cordon. I think I can get the other way around it but it is not ideal.

"You see these police cordons too often now in Nottingham. It is shocking. I have children too - it is concerning."

Inspector Usha Madaraa, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers were called to the junction of Ransom Road and Brewsters Road, St Ann's, Nottingham, at 5pm today (Monday 6 February 2023), following reports of a serious assault. A young man was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre with injuries which are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

“People can expect to see a large police presence in the area while we investigate the full circumstances of the incident. Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 575 of 6 February 2023, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
