A recent drone video captured the awe-inspiring sight of a colossal 28-foot wave crashing within Hurricane Milton as it approached the western coast of Florida. The hurricane, initially classified as a category 5 storm, slightly weakened to a category 3 just before making landfall on Wednesday.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis acknowledged the storm's significant impact but reassured the public that it did not reach the worst-case scenario. Despite this, Hurricane Milton triggered several tornadoes in southern Florida, exacerbating the destruction alongside the storm surge.
In response to the crisis, Florida mobilized approximately 10,000 National Guardsmen, with around 3,000 reinforcements arriving from other states to aid in the emergency efforts. As the storm subsided below hurricane-level winds, first responders promptly initiated search and rescue operations at daybreak on Thursday to assist those affected by the disaster.
