Mason Mount talks reopened as Newcastle pull plug on deal for £68m Liverpool 'target'

In just over one month's time, the Premier League will make its return.

Liverpool will be hoping to challenge at the top end of the division after falling short of their usual standards last season, though will be prepared for what promises to be an ultra competitive campaign.

Arsenal continue to go from strength to strength and are on the verge of a huge £105m deal to sign West Ham United captain Declan Rice, meanwhile Chelsea will soon find themselves in a stronger position after offloading deadwood in their squad.

Manchester City will of course be fancied for the title next term, despite losing skipper Ilkay Gundogan, though Manchester United once again remain challenging to gauge. And below is a round-up of each team's current dealings in the transfer market.

Manchester United

Manchester United are expected to resume talks with Chelsea over a deal for Mason Mount.

The two clubs have been unable to strike an agreement for the England international, the latest bid worth £55m turned down by the Londoners as they hold out for an initial worth £58m.

BBC Sport state the clubs will look to 'resolve the impasse' this week, in the hope of finding a resolution to recent discussions.

Newcastle United

Newcastle's interest in Nicolo Barella has 'ended' after their £52m move for AC Milan's Sandro Tonali. The Toon Army are soon expected to confirm the arrival of the Italian midfielder, though are no longer believed to be eyeing a move for Barella as a result.

That's according to the Telegraph, who make clear other options were considered due to a transfer fee gap and competition emerging from other clubs. Liverpool are one of the other teams who are admirers of the £68m-rated Inter star, though the Reds are yet to explore a transfer approach.

Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed the double departure of midfielder Kai Havertz and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Havertz has joined Arsenal for £65m and leaves Stamford Bridge after three seasons at the club. Mendy, meanwhile, has joined the long list of players heading for Saudi Arabia. The Senegalese shot-stopper has penned a three-year deal at Al-Ahli and will be competing in the Saudi Pro League alongside his former team-mates N'Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Arsenal

Arsenal are closing in on the signing Rice after agreeing a £105m transfer fee with West Ham and the midfielder is soon expected to undergo a medical.

Man City pulled out of the race for the England international after seeing a £90m offer knocked back, paving the way for the Gunners to secure his services. A latest article by talkSPORT has made clear the 24-year-old has 'been given permission' to carry out medical tests at the Emirates Stadium and is 'free to discuss personal terms'.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur last night completed the £40m transfer for James Maddison. Leaving Leicester City after five years spent at the King Power Stadium, it was anticipated the 26-year-old would seek pastures new following the Foxes' relegation from the Premier League.

Maddison has committed to Spurs on a five-year contract and becomes their third addition of the summer window, having also purchased Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and triggered their option to make Dejan Kulusevski's loan permanent.

Manchester City

City have reportedly entered the race to recruit Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, who is on Liverpool's transfer shortlist this summer.

Pep Guardiola's side are understood to be keen on the youngster after abandoning a deal for West Ham skipper Rice. Fabrizio Romano has stated Veiga is 'one of the options' being considered by the reigning Premier League champions as they look to further strengthen their squad.

Veiga has a release clause worth €40m (£34.4m), with interested clubs needing to trigger this in order to stand a chance of striking a deal with Celta.
