Mason Mount signs for Manchester United as 18-year Chelsea career comes to end

Mason Mount has completed his £60million move from Chelsea to Manchester United.

The Red Devils today confirmed the transfer on a five-year contract after Mount underwent a medical earlier this week.

Chelsea will receive an initial fee of £55m with £5m in add-ons agreed as part of a deal that few could have predicted until recently, with the England midfielder looking like a one-club man and potential Stamford Bridge legend earlier in his career.

However, talks over a new contract collapsed between the player and club over the past year with Mount seeking terms equivalent to the highest-earners in west London.

United will pay Mount £250,000-a-week, which could rise to £300,000-a-week with bonuses, after Erik ten Hag made him a priority for the summer transfer market.

Mount, 24, joined Chelsea as a six-year-old in 2005 and made his debut after loan stints at Vitesse and Derby.

In almost 200 appearances for the club, he lifted the Champions League and Club World Cup. Ahead of the move, he released an emotional message to bid farewell to Chelsea fans.
