Chelsea have been told by former player Glen Johnson they should sell Mason Mount this summer amid his contract dispute and a significant dip in form. The Cobham graduate sees his current deal expire in 2024 with talks over an extension delayed on numerous occasions this season before ultimately being planned for the end of the season.
Alongside the off-pitch struggles involving negotiations, Mount has endured arguably his worst spell in a Chelsea shirt following his introduction into the first team in 2019. Under Graham Potter, Mount was a regular starter but struggled to deliver consistently in attack.
Injuries have also played a role in his difficulties this season with the abdominal issue that has bothered him for a number of months still keeping him out. The return of Frank Lampard, the man who first brought Mount into the senior team, could help his form improve, however if that does not turn out to be the case, former Chelsea star Glen Johnson has told Mount exactly which club he should join.

"I actually think he would be brilliant at Bayern," he said Iin an interview with DAZN Bet, via FourFourTwo. "You could understand why Tuchel wants him because he got him playing his best football for sure. Everything that went well at Chelsea whilst Tuchel was there, Mason Mount was right at the heart of it. He hasn’t had that same impact since, so you could understand why they would want to do business together again and link back up.
"I think he is more than good enough to play at that level; I really like him. At the moment, Chelsea should take £70m because he hasn’t been the same Mason Mount and Chelsea may need to take the money after all their signings. It also depends on who the next manager is, because [Mount] may be able to bounce back if there is a top manager like Tuchel, who wants to bring in other top players to play alongside him.
"On the other hand, you could totally understand why interest from a club like Bayern and a manager like Tuchel would make his head turn: [under Tuchel] was when he was playing his best."
Tuchel joined Bayern Munich as their new manager last month following the surprise sacking of Julian Nagelsmann, who in turn joined Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino on the short list of replacements for Potter. Mount was a huge part of Chelsea's Champions League triumph under Tuchel in the 2020/21 campaign and the former Blues boss could look to further raid Chelsea, after first enquiring about assistant coach Anthony Barry, with another star on their radar.
Kai Havertz has been linked with Bayern Munich but a major claim from the German club's CEO Oliver Kahn indicates they are currently not thinking about their summer transfer plans "It doesn't make sense to mention it right now," Kahn told BILD, via Twitter user @iMiaSanMia, when specifically asked about Havertz. "As I said, our focus is fully on this season and not on future topics. We are not discussing new signings with Tuchel now”.
