Mason Mount sends Fran Kirby message after Chelsea star helps England to Women's Euro 2022 win

Chelsea Player of the Year Mason Mount offered Blues compatriot Fran Kirby a message of support as England chase history at the 2022 Women's Euros.

The Lionesses are looking to make home advantage count and build upon their fourth-placed finish at the 2017 tournament. Under the guidance of Sarina Wiegman, England are looking to win their first piece of silverware as bookmakers tout them as second-favourites for the competition.

For Wiegman, she is looking to replicate a feat she managed with her native Holland, five years ago. The Netherlands were crowned champions, beating England en route, to their triumph.

Kirby started their opening game against Austria as Beth Mead's goal helped the Lionesses to a winning start. However, they face the task of catching Norway after they coasted past Northern Ireland to the top of Group A.

Mount took to Instagram to show his support for Kirby, wearing her number 14 shirt. He posted: "@frankirby with the flair! Let’s go @lionesses, bring it home!!"

The 29-year-old starred for Emma Hayes' side in the Women's Super League last year as they won the WSL by a point. Kirby had six goals and as many assists in the league.

After their winning start to the tournament, she also took to the social media platform, thanking fans for a record-breaking occasion at Old Trafford. She said: "Off to a great start in front of record-breaking crowd! You guys were electric."
