Mason Mount's early warning opens the door for Kai Havertz's dream Chelsea partnership

Is anyone else absolutely loving the bromance between Kai Havertz and Mason Mount? They have built up a relationship that fans could have only dreamed of. Their chemistry in front of goal has been a match made in heaven. It almost reminds me of the once before the chemistry between Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, and Oscar. The three villains who just had fun with their football.

The two youngsters are just getting started in what could be a very long Chelsea career together. When there’s a visible friendship between players, we get to enjoy watching them play a lot more.

Besides, I guess they’ve put the previous rumours regarding their relationship to rest.

Once upon a time, in a land far away from reality, reports suggested that Mount had been furious with Chelsea’s decision to sign Havertz. The 'competition for places' was in question, and the young Englishman was apparently frustrated with this. There were claims that Mount was set to be the fall guy with the signing of the German superstar.

Let’s assume that Havertz was signed to take Mount’s palace. Let’s pretend that this piece of information is indeed factual. In January 2020, the Chelsea academy graduate had already sent out a strong message to any potential signings. He told the daily mail,

“You know Chelsea can always buy £60m, £70m or £80m players that are world-class. They want to come here and take my place. Just because I am an academy boy and young, that doesn’t mean anything. But the mentality I have means I won’t be pushed over easily.

“I will fight for my position and keep working hard. At a club as big as Chelsea, you have to have that mentality.

“It always stuck with me. It’s why I am here in the first place.”

He has always had a work-hard mentality, so surely he couldn’t have felt too threatened by a man who, in the end, has become one of his close friends in the team. The pair can play alongside each other, despite claims that they would be fighting for one spot.

The thing I find the most amusing about the Havertz & Mount relationship is their class celebrations. The secret wave doesn’t go unnoticed. The slight jump and smile that goes with the celebration just add to their innocence. As a lifelong Chelsea fan, it’s like watching your two younger brothers get along.

Their friendship calls for the narration from the UK’s famous show, the Inbetweeners. Their celebration may not be the sarcastic thumbs up portrayed by Simon Cooper below, but the term 'friends, football friends' comes straight to mind.

Surely, you must be able to hear it in your head too.

Chelsea faced Newcastle over the weekend, and before Havertz’s last-minute winning goal, Mount had already been subbed off. The pair could not give the Bridge a glance at their celebration, but they sent a lovely message via Instagram. (Swipe to the second picture)
