Mason Mount reveals why Tottenham striker Harry Kane can boost England's World Cup chances

Chelsea star Mason Mount has praised England teammate and captain Harry Kane's finishing ability, labelling him "special" for the way he strikes the ball. It comes as the pair look to guide their nation to a first major trophy and World Cup since they won it back in 1966.

The pair were a huge part of the Three Lions camp that made their way to the European Championship final just last year, but fell at the final hurdle to Italy on penalties. It's been a rocky year for the side since, but the tournament in Qatar could help them back on track and make a push for the trophy.

"It’s exciting [to be here],” Kane said on his side arriving in the country for the competition. "That’s the dream [winning it], what we’re aiming to do. We’ll have to wait and see, it’s going to be a really tough tournament.

"Starting Monday [against Iran], it’s going to be a really tough game and we know that, so we have to prepare for that. But I’m just really excited to get going.”

Kane could be a key part of England's campaign towards glory, having won the previous World Cup Golden Boot back in 2018 in Russia and finishing second top scorer in the 2020 Euros. His ability to drop deeper and pass is just one facet of his play that can be useful, but ultimately it's his finishing that could make the difference.

It's something that was praised by teammate Mount, who told the Premier League: "In training I don't think I've seen him - well obviously he's missed maybe a few [chances] - but two in a row? Never. Never seen him [Kane] miss two in a row.

"And just the way he strikes the ball, the way he picks the corner and hits it, yeah special."

It remains to be seen exactly what impact Kane can have in the tournament, but his goals could be the key in England's progression and success should it happen for them this time around.
