Mason Mount reveals Chelsea’s honest dressing room talks to address poor form ahead of Leeds win

Mason Mount revealed how some honest dressing room discussions played an important role in Chelsea’s comfortable win over Leeds at Elland Road.

The Blues went into the match on a poor run of form, most recently throwing away a two-goal lead as they drew against Wolves to make it just two wins in seven Premier League matches.

A slip-up never looked likely against Leeds once Mount scored inside four minutes, with Dan James then shown a straight red card in the first-half. Christian Pulisic and Romelu Lukaku capped off the win after the break.

It was a much-needed win for Chelsea, ahead of an FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday, and Mount believes the Blues are now back on track.

“We spoke about how big this week was at the beginning - it didn’t start well obviously last Saturday,” Mount told Sky Sports.

“We needed a bounce back, we had a few days to get together and speak within the group. Some truths that needed to be said and we got that out of our system.

“This was a game where we could get going, we know what’s coming up next. It’s a massive, massive game and this is a good step towards that.

“It’s all exciting. Speaking a bit about every game being a final and the next game is one - we’re ready and it’s time for us to try and win one.”

It was a typically raucous atmosphere at Elland Road, with the Leeds fans directing boos at Mount when he was in possession.

Despite the rivalry between Leeds and Chelsea, the Blues midfielder revealed after the match how much he enjoys playing at the ground.

“It was a fun one, I do love playing here,” Mount said.

“It’s a stadium with a lot of history, the fans are brilliant. They don’t like us too much, so it was a brilliant atmosphere.

“As soon as we got the goal, we kind of quietened the stadium down a bit and then we could play our stuff. That was what the objective was.

He added: “I was reading the programme before the game and it said ‘make the stadium as hard to play in as possible’.

“When you come here, you know it’s going to be tough, but we loved it.”
