Mason Mount’s squad number has been confirmed following a £60m transfer to Manchester United.
The England international bid an emotional farewell to former club Chelsea following an 18-year association with the Blues.
Mount admitted some sections of the Chelsea support would not agree with his decision to leave west London but stressed it was the “right move” at this stage of his career.
The midfielder had entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and was put up for sale after rejected their most recent offer of a one-year extension earlier this year.
Now, Mount will take the iconic number 7 at Old Trafford after becoming United’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
That number has previously been worn by club legends George Best, Bryan Robson, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo and is one of the most famed shirts in world football.
More recently, the likes of Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez have struggled to live up to its billing.
