Mason Mount makes Chelsea admission as Liverpool links continue

Mason Mount has admitted he’s had a “tough” season at Chelsea amid transfer links with Liverpool.

The Reds are continuing to be credited with an interest in signing Mount during the summer transfer window. Liverpool are joined by the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Juventus in being linked with a move for the 24-year-old at the end of the season.

Mount’s current deal with Chelsea is set to expire at the end of next season in 2024. Various reports have suggested that talks over an extension have stalled, meaning he could leave this summer.

Further reports have claimed that Chelsea would look for a fee in the region of £70m in order to part ways with Mount at the end of the season. It remains to be seen whether the Londoners will indeed look to sell Mount amid the continuous links with Liverpool.

Mount has struggled for form by his usual standards this season, scoring just three goals in 32 appearances. The versatile midfielder has now opened up on a “tough” season at Stamford Bridge, while speaking to clothing retailer Matches Fashion.

“It’s been tough and I think you learn a lot from a season like this and you can grow a lot," said Mount.

"Maybe I’m not going to achieve the goals I set at the beginning of this year.

"You look at it like: 'Why did that happen? How can I affect that for next year? How can I do better?'

“We’ve still got some more to go and hopefully another competition to try and win.”
