Mason Mount lifts lid on Manchester United move and reveals pre-season aim

Mason Mount has lifted the lid on his move to Manchester United and revealed that he was eager to join the club as early as possible in the summer transfer window.

Mount formally completed his transfer to United from Chelsea on Wednesday and he has signed a five-year contract with the option of an additional year.

Chelsea had demanded £58m up front and £7m in add-ons for their academy graduate, but United 'held firm' and agreed to a deal of £55m rising to £60m.

United claim they saw off interest from Liverpool and Arsenal to agree personal terms with Mount, 24, in May. Mount showed a "strong desire" to join United following talks with Erik ten Hag.

The focus for the player will now be to hit the ground running at Old Trafford, and he says he wanted to join as early as possible so that he could be involved in pre-season training right from the start.

"Several months ago, it became clear that I wasn't in Chelsea's plans moving forward," he told MUTV. "Once I knew that United were involved, my decision was made up.

"A massive club, huge iconic players have played here, and I wanted to be a part of that from the beginning. Getting in early and ready for pre-season to start was a main objective of mine as well."
