Mason Mount and Reece James targeted as Chelsea seen as 'vulnerable' amid takeover decision

A number of European clubs are reportedly circling several Chelsea stars ahead of a nightmare situation for Blues fans this summer with the club's future uncertain. Chelsea are hoping to announce new owners before the start of the summer transfer window - so the club can rebuild and sign players ahead of next season.

However, it is proving to be a slow process. And the longer it goes on, the more dangerous it could become for the football club on-the-pitch.

Chelsea currently cannot sign a player, with the club's current owner Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the UK government over his alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine.

Over the last few days, it has become much clearer for fans to understand who the next Chelsea owner will be. Despite a late bid from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly has been selected as the preferred bidder for Chelsea and has reportedly secured a period of exclusivity as it attempts to complete its multi-billion pound takeover from Roman Abramovich.

As per networth.com, Boehly's current net worth sits at £4.72bn. He is the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Eldridge Industries. Eldridge is a holding company with offices in New York, Boston and London, and have a history of investment in industries including technology, media, real estate and sport.

But whilst a deal has still yet to be agreed, the club remain sanctioned and are unable to partake in any transfer business - and they're already set to lose one key player. Anotnio Rudiger has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, with the German not agreeing a new deal with Chelsea, whilst defensive partner Andreas Christensen looks like he will also leave as a free agent.

And whilst fans have been bracing to lose the aforementioned duo, The Athletic's Simon Johnson has reported that clubs are also looking into the potential of signing Mason Mount and Reece James, with Chelsea being seen as 'vulnerable'. Manchester City and Real Madrid are reportedly interested in James, whilst no team is mentioned for Mount.

The two players will be seen as key players to build around for Thomas Tuchel, with the German manager hoping for a resolution on the ownership situation before the transfer market officially opens in two months time.

He will have some work to do this summer, replacing the two outgoing defenders, along with bringing in a striker - with a number of big names linked to Stamford Bridge.
