Mason Mount admits to major ‘concern’ over Chelsea takeover as Raine Group make sale decisions

Chelsea star Mason Mount has admitted that uncertainty over the club’s ownership is a ‘concern’ for the whole squad. The Blues are currently up for sale, with Roman Abramovich having come to his decision on March 2. The UK Government then imposed sanctions on him eight days later.

As it stands, Raine Group - the facilitators of the sale - appear to have named their preferred bidders and it now remains to be seen how close a deal will actually be once all offers are tabled. In fact, a number of conflicting reports have seen fans and players alike left uncertain over the current situation. Having only known the relative stability of the Abramovich era throughout his development in west London, Mount has admitted that the unpredictable nature of the takeover process is somewhat daunting.

Speaking after England ’s 2-1 victory over Switzerland at Wembley Stadium, the midfielder said: "I’ve been at the club since I was six-years-old and something like this has not happened before, so it can be a concern. At the beginning, and even now, we don’t really know where it’s going and what’s happening the next day.

"So it’s difficult. But we focus on our football and what we can do is try and win as many games as we can. Obviously I’m away with England, so that stuff is kind of parked and I’m focusing on England duty and what I can do while I’m away.”

Mount - alongside his Chelsea teammates - is hopeful of being handed an update on the current situation as he returns to Cobham next week. He also hinted though that being on the pitch can relieve the tension considerably.

"And then, when I go back to Chelsea next week, I’m sure we will be informed about what’s going on because I haven’t heard anything recently. It can sometimes be hard to focus on football when a lot of things is going on around you,” the 23-year-old continued.

"But I feel like it has made it a bit easier, that there are so many games to play that we have to focus ourselves on what’s happening on the pitch. Hopefully that can continue. You don’t know what’s going on from day to day, so to focus on football is all we can do."
