Mason Greenwood has been released on bail after being detained by police on suspicion of rape, sexual assault and threats to kill.
The Manchester United forward will be subject to further investigation by authorities.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated: "A 20-year-old man arrested (on Sunday 30 January 2022) on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation. "
Greenwood was arrested after serious allegations were made against him by a woman on Sunday afternoon, the Mirror reports.
On Tuesday, police confirmed that 20-year-old was under further arrest on suspicion of threats to kill and sexual assault.
The allegations against the footballer were reportedly visible on a woman's Instagram on Sunday morning, however the posts have since been deleted.
Manchester United announced that Greenwood will not train or play for the Premier League club until further notice.
A statement from United on Sunday afternoon read: "Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice."
