Mason Greenwood company made £1m in year of arrest as Man Utd continue investigation

Mason Greenwood’s image rights company broke the £1m barrier in the same year he was suspended by Manchester United and lost endorsement deals following his arrest for alleged sex offences and assault, which have since been dropped by prosecutors.

Accounts filed for TSM Sports Ltd, a 2019 business established in 2019 by the footballer and his father, for the financial period April 2021 to September 2022 showed current assets of £1,052,134.

The accounts showed an increase of more than £300,000 compared to the previous balance sheet. Creditors amounting to £114,746 are listed, meaning the shareholders ended the financial period with funds of £963,678.

Separate filings on Companies House show Greenwood is the sole director after his father, Andrew, resigned in June 2020.

Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on a woman. He was further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

But the charges were subsequently dropped in February of this year with the Crown Prosecution Service saying that “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”

Greenwood, who is under contract until the summer of 2025, has remained sidelined by United while an internal investigation continues. However he is understood to be still receiving his £75,000-per-week salary.

Fans remain unable to purchase merchandise bearing his name and he continues to be linked with a move away, including potentially being loaned to Jose Mourinho ’s Roma.

Greenwood lost a lucrative endorsement deal with Nike and was removed from the FIFA computer game series by developers EA Sports following his arrest.

His last game for United came against West Ham in a Premier League fixture on January 22 last year - eight days before his arrest - but he has recently been pictured training alone.

United have not commented publicly on his status since the CPS decision in February. In a brief statement at the time they said: “The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

No timescale has been provided but sources believe a decision could be made before the start of the 2023/24 season. United travel to America for a pre-season tour next week and Greenwood is not expected to be part of the group.
