Stephen Mulhern might be getting an angry text from friend Claire Richards after he 'outed' her as Knitting during his guest stint on The Masked Singer before her reveal as he was voted off the show.
In For A Penny and Saturday Night Takeaway star Stephen was the first guest judge of the ITV show's new series, as he joined Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan and Rita Ora on the panel for a double elimination. And, despite Knitting trying to throw the panel off the scent by adopting an operatic tone for the first few lines of her cover of Anastacia's Left Outside Alone, Stephen was quick to guess at it being Claire.
His 'outing' of Claire as Knitting, came a week after Davina had a 'lightbulb moment' over Knitting, thinking back to a clue from week of a magpie in Knitting's first VT and linking it to Steps song One for Sorrow. She cemented her prediction this weekend after a sad face amongst Knitting's Masked Singer latest clues and, sitting next to her Stephen shared the same theory, specially after he believed Knitting was blowing him a kiss from the stage.
Giving his take on things, he said: "Before Knitting started singing, she was doing this to me," before her blew a kiss and added: "So maybe it is someone I know. There's one person who I genuinely do believe has one of the best voices in the country and I've always said she should go solo."
Stephen then turned to Davina commented: "And I think you've cracked it. I think it's Claire from Steps," as his guess got a hearty applause from the studio audience" and Mo Gilligan joked: "You should phone her right now."
Stephen's suspicions ended up being as, after Knitting finished bottom of the audience vote, she removed her mask to unveil herself as the celeb in disguise.
