Masked robbers fail in bid to drag cash machine from Co-op

Two masked men looped a heavy chain around a cash machine and tried to use a car to yank it from a convenience store. But the attempted robbery failed and they fled without any cash.

They pulled up outside the Co-op in Dudlow Green Road in Appleton, Warrington. Wearing balaclavas and dressed in black tracksuits and trainers, then fled in the vehicle which was found abandoned nearby.

The incident shortly after 9.30pm on Tuesday 31 May. Detective Constable Ian Morris, of Warrington local policing unit, said: "We believe the men came prepared to rob the cash machine however it failed and they quickly left the area.
