Masked man with firearm threatens staff in cash raid at Scots bookies

Staff at a Scots bookmakers in were left shaken when a masked robber threatened them with a firearm before making off with cash.

The incident happened at around 6.50pm on Saturday at Ladbrokes in Hamilton 's Burnbank Shopping Centre on Burnbank Road.

The suspect stole a three figure sum of cash before he is believed to have run off in the direction of Ann Street in the South Lanarkshire town.

He is described as white, 5ft 8in height and of slim build.

As well as carrying a dark rucksack, he was wearing a face mask, dark upper clothing, light coloured trousers with dark patches, light coloured footwear, a baseball cap with his hood up.

Staff members were uninjured, however, they have been left shaken up by what happened.

Detective Sergeant Clare Curley, Cambuslang CID, said: "Officers are checking CCTV and carrying out local enquiries but would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch.

"Information can be passed to officers via 101 quoting reference number 2855 of Saturday, 5 February, 2022. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111."
