A 14-year-old girl has been hospitalized with potentially life changing injuries after allegedly being attacked with acid in West London.

On Monday afternoon, the girl, who was accompanied by another teenaged friend, was approached by a man on an e-scooter "who threw a substance at them before fleeing down Harrow Road", according to Metropolitan police.

The man was a "tall, slim, black male, wearing dark clothing with his face obscured, possibly by a mask or balaclava," according to law enforcement.

Authorities have stated that the injuries sustained by both the girl and her friend suggest that the substance thrown at the two teens was acidic.

The incident sparked a manhunt for the masked suspect of the crime, who fled the scene at Westminster academy on an E-scooter.

"From our inquiries so far, we believe the two young victims were on Alfred Road when they were approached by a lone suspect who threw a substance at them before fleeing down Harrow Road," said investigation leader DCI Dean Purvis.

"A member of staff bravely and selflessly rushed to provide first aid to the two victims, sustaining injuries herself in the process," continued Purvis. "The two teenage victims – a girl and a boy – remain in hospital. For the 14-year-old girl, we might not know for some time how severe her injuries are. But, at this time, they are being treated as life-changing."

The 27-year-old staff member who attempted to help the two teens has since been released from the hospital.

Following the attack, classes at Westminster academy have been moved online, with students and staff all working remotely.
