Masked gang of prowlers try to break into sleeping Scots family's home

A Scots couple have been left shaken after a gang of masked prowlers tried to break into their home while they slept.

The couple, both in their 50s, were awoken at 1am on Thursday morning after hearing noises outside their house on Pettycur Bay in Kinghorn, Fife. Chilling CCTV footage taken at the couple's home shows four masked intruders dressed in black attempting to enter the property through the front door.

The gang can be seen rounding the side of the house and pointing to a ground floor window, with one of them climbing up the patio to peer inside.

The couple's son said his mum has been shaken by the incident.

The 28-year-old said: "When my parents saw the video, they immediately contacted the police. My mum is shaken up but they don't think there is a chance of the gang coming back.

"There's never been any kind of crime there before, so I think everyone will be getting CCTV put in now."

The gang fled the scene when Paul went to the bathroom and spotted one of the men wearing a hooded jacket through the frosted glass window. He battered the window and the man scurried away.

It wasn't until later on Thursday morning that the family saw the footage.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called on Thursday, 23 March, to a report of people seen acting suspiciously around 1am in the Pettycur Bay area of Kinghorn. Enquiries are ongoing.”
