Marymass derby: Irvine Meadow looking for reaction against high-flying Irvine Vics

Colin Spence and Dougie MacDuff admit all the pressure is on one team ahead of tonight’s Marymass derby.

Irvine Meadow and Irvine Vics will lock horns at Meadow Park in a battle for the town’s bragging rights.

And rival bosses Spence and MacDuff are united in one belief – that the game is must-win for Medda.

The hosts are in desperate need of a pick-me-up after a dismal 1-0 loss against nine-man Arthurlie on Saturday.

They haven’t won at home since March but supporters will expect that to change against a Vics side three tiers below them.

Medda co-boss Spence admitted: “If you’re a Meadow man you can’t lose these games. It’s as big a game you get here on the calendar.

“We need to find a solution and we need to find it fast.

“It’s a cup final for Vics. They’ll always find that wee bit extra to play against you and if you’ve not got the mentality to go and match that first and foremost you’ll find yourself in trouble.”

Vics boss MacDuff takes his side across town just 48 hours after they clocked up a fourth straight league win courtesy of a 1-0 victory against Finnart.

The Westenders are the in-form team but MacDuff insisted: “Irvine Meadow are the top team in the town with the finances they have. It’s really David versus Goliath.

“Ideally I’d have liked a full week to prepare for the game but we will go there and give it our best shot.

“It’s a test for us against top players in front of a big crowd but one we should go and enjoy.”

The game will kick off at 7.30pm.
