The search and recovery operation following the collapse of a key Baltimore bridge is currently focused on bringing closure to the families of those presumed dead, according to Maryland Governor Wes Moore.
Governor Moore emphasized the importance of providing a sense of closure and comfort to the families affected by the tragic incident. He stated that the state is committed to this task and is taking it very seriously.
As of now, six individuals who were on the bridge at the time of the collapse remain missing and are presumed dead, as confirmed by a Coast Guard official. The search and recovery operation has been ongoing since Tuesday evening.
Divers were deployed into the water at 6 a.m. ET on Wednesday to continue search and recovery efforts. Governor Moore stressed that this phase of the operation is not a conclusion but a continuation of the efforts to locate and recover any victims.
He reiterated the state's dedication to the mission, stating that the current phase is being approached with the same level of seriousness and personal investment as the initial stages of the operation.
