Maryhill flats thug stole dog at knifepoint and stabbed friends who tried to get him back

A thug robbed a man of his girlfriend's dog at knifepoint.

Jamie Dunn, 34, pounced on Jamie Jenkins in the close of a block of flats in Maryhill on November 19, 2021.

The victim - while walking Lennon the tan-coloured Staffordshire bull terrier - was presented with the blade by Dunn.

Dunn - who called Lennon by name - then made off with the dog back to his own flat before being confronted by the owner's two friends.

Dunn then struck the pair with the knife but Lennon was able to escape back home with them.

The attacker pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Jamie and robbing him of the dog.

He also admitted assaulting Shelley MacKie and Nicola McFarlane to their injury.

The court heard Lennon's owner Nicole O'Connor asked boyfriend Jamie to walk Lennon as she was hosting a gathering.

Jamie was confronted moments later by Dunn who was clutching the knife.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: "He presented the knife and demanded the dog and thereafter robbed him of the dog.

"Dunn then made off with the dog.

"Mr Jenkins did not know Dunn but it was clear that the attacker knew the name of the dog as he referred to Lennon by name."

It was found that Dunn had gone back to his own flat which prompted Shelley and Nicola to attend.

He struck Shelley on the head and body as well as on the abdomen leaving a one-to-two-inch wound.

Nicola was stabbed on the head and a small wound was left on her face.

Mr Allan added: "As for Lennon, after the violence, the dog followed them upstairs and went back to the flat where he was reunited with the householders."

A 999 call was made before Dunn was arrested and the silver kitchen knife was recovered.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by sheriff Brian Cameron.

Dunn - who appeared from custody - had his remand continued meantime.
