Mary Trump: Media Neglects Important News Amid Sensationalism

Donald Trump’s New York fraud trial has largely flown under the radar, a reminder of how often important news gets lost as media outlets focus mostly on sensationalism, said Mary Trump during a MeidasTouch podcast aired on Friday.

Reining In Trump: The dysfunction in Congress that upended the Senate’s work and put the country’s national security at risk, along with Clarence Thomas and his wife Ginni Thomas’ role in the Jan. 6 riots, has been lost in major news coverage, she said.

“Things get normalized,” Mary Trump, a psychologist, said. The former president has been “throwing so much at the wall all the time that his bad behavior just came to be assumed to be baked in,” she added.

Mary Trump also delved into what it would take to hold her uncle accountable. People tend to think that Donald Trump keeps getting away with things because he does, she said. “But he also has been held accountable, and he has lost, and he is continuing to lose, and he will become weaker if we focus on our individual and collective victories against him,” she added.

A Sore Loser: The psychologist also weighed in on the denial of the 2020 election results by many Republicans. “The diminution of our ability to enjoy and savor the victory started right away because Donald never conceded the election because he is a sore loser and can never admit when he loses,” she said.

The former president’s niece warned that matters are now worse than they were in December 2020, as her uncle’s egregious behavior has been normalized by the corporate media and the Republican party has proven to be more craven than previously imagined.

Reiterating the views of Ruth Ben-Ghiat, whom she had interviewed recently, Mary Trump said it is extraordinary for somebody like her uncle, who has been out of power now for years, to still be deemed relevant.

“Instead of pointing out what a weakened corrupt shell he is, you know, it’s quite stunning to me that every article that references him doesn’t start with the twice-impeached, four-times indicted fraud who killed a million Americans because of his mishandling of COVID-19,” Mary Trump said.
