Mary J. Blige has revealed how she drastically changed her life with just one small task every morning.
The singer who is celebrating more than four decades in the music and arts industry admits that before altering her daily routine, she didn't like herself.
Mary, 52, has spoken candidly about her life after receiving six Grammy nominations for her latest album, Good Morning Gorgeous, as well as walking home with five Billboard Music Awards.
But despite being one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, Mary says she struggled to accept herself and was never able to see the positives in her life.
Speaking to People, the hitmaker explained: "I can accept it all with humility and with confidence because I've been working so hard all my life, really, really hard.
"But I wasn't able to see the good things until I really got my head together and my life together."
Explaining how she helped change her life, Mary explained that when she wakes up she says to herself: "Good morning, gorgeous."
She added: "Sometimes my eyes are all closed up, but I strain to see myself.
"It's not about the vanity of it, it's about how we're strengthened. no one can love me like me, nobody can."
The star explained that her morning ritual is more than that, adding that it's a form of meditation for her in order to appreciate her life.
Just last week, she celebrated her birthday in a plunging dress which left very little to the imagination at a lavish party held in New York.
The Grammy-winning singer had guests such as Fat Joe, Joey Bada$$ and Usher among the many celebrities who descended upon Cipriani Wall Street in Manhattan.
Mary stepped out in a tiny dress, completely covered with sparkling rhinestones which dazzled under the beaming lights of the city.
In a bid to keep warm for her grand arrival, Mary opted to rock a floor-length faux fur coat which perfectly complemented her sparkling outfit.
But Mary didn't hold back with the accessories, opting for huge diamond-encrusted earrings alongside several diamond necklaces which cascaded down her chest.
Adding extra inches to her height, she slipped into a pair of sparkling silver heels which wrapped around her ankles before resting on her calves.
Meanwhile, her luscious platinum locks were tied into a large topknot and swept back off of her face to reveal her killer cheekbones.
