Marvel's Thunderbolts trailer is released as Florence Pugh leads antiheroes team

The writers’ strike may have delayed Marvel’s new flick Thunderbolts from hitting cinemas as planned, but it looks like the film will have been worth the wait.

The antihero biopic is on its way, and fans do not have long to wait to catch it in all its glory.

Disney released a small trailer of what we can expect early next year, and it looks like it will not disappoint.

Ex-Black Widow Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, turns to her father, Red Guardian Alexei Shostakov, played by David Harbour, to find him living in squalor. They’re both depressed about what their lives have become and that is when things start to change.

Thunderbolts is set to bring together a number of characters from across the Marvel multiverse to form the titular team, many of whom have been teased before in films including Black Widow or Disney+ shows such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Hawkeye.

The Thunderbolts is rather like Marvel’s answer to the Suicide Squad: a bunch of renegades and misfits who are forced to work together for the greater good.

The film tells the tale of the disbanded group of misfits brought together unexpectedly and how they end up working together.

Here is what we know about the film...

When is Thunderbolts out?

The new Marvel film will make its way onto our cinema screens on May 2, 2025 – the same date as its US release.

Who is in Thunderbolts?

Marvel misfits come together in this hotly-anticipated movie.

We can expect to see characters Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), in addition to some exciting new faces.

Who is the mysterious Bob in Thunderbolts?

The trailer did tease an unexpected addition to the team: Bob.

But who is Bob? At first glance, Bob is simply a guy in hospital scrubs who just happens to be on a team exclusively populated by trained assassins... or is he?

A quick shot of an iconic belt buckle from later in the trailer though seems to reveal who he will be – the Sentry.

Created by writer Paul Jenkins and artist Jae Lee in the 2000s Sentry miniseries, Robert Reynolds, aka Bob, wields strong powers as the superhero known as the Sentry.

After an encounter with super soldier serum, he gained Superman-like powers – including immense strength, speed, flight, invulnerability, enhanced senses, and solar energy absorption. And it looks like he could be joining the team.
