Martyn Ford confident he could beat Thor Bjornsson and avenge friend Eddie Hall's defeat

Martyn Ford is confident he would beat Thor Bjornsson - and avenge friend Eddie Hall's defeat.

Hall was dropped twice by the Icelander on Saturday night before slipping to a points decision in their grudge fight.

And Ford, who has his hands full with his own fight against Iranian Hulk next month, took the opportunity to size up Bjornsson ahead of a potential fight.

"I didn't think he was special, i didn't think he was great," he told iFL TV. "He used his advantages; he was clever, he was composed, he kept his distance and used his jab a lot.

"It was a safe fight from Thor, he played it well and I'm just gutted for Eddie as a friend."

Ford seemed to suggest he would knock Bjornsson out before hedging his bets by adding: "I tell you what, I would take Thor 100 per cent, I don't know if I would knock him out but I would beat him.

"He's not venomous; there's no snap in the punch. I would back myself. If Eddie wants me to do it, I'd do it."

Ford also pointed out Hall's mistakes as he fell away after a promising start in which Bjornsson was administered a count when the ropes kept him up in the second round.

"These are two guys who have a lot of heart and a lot of power." he added. "Everyone loves Eddie, he's a f****** fighter and he hasn't let himself down at all.

"Watching it as someone who loves boxing, you can see what the problem was; there were big, big shots swinging in which were going to blow his energy.

"He wanted to hit the one shot but it's not going to work. You're relying on a lucky shot to get your knockout and you're not working our man, you're not throwing your combinations, his head was static, his hands were low and Thor's got a reach advantage.

"I said before that Eddie had two rounds to win and then it's going to get harder and harder because Thor has alright movement and has a very good reach on Eddie."
