'Martinelli up front' - Alexandre Lacazette Arsenal absence opens up Arteta blessing in disguise

Arsenal’s fight for a place in the Champions League next season has been seriously hampered by injuries in recent weeks. Knocks to Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney have weakened Mikel Arteta’s side and the Gunners have lost back-to-back matches as a result.

And it seems the injury numbers to the first-team squad could be increasing. In a training video released by Arsenal, Alexandre Lacazette was visibly absent from the squad, alongside Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Lacazette has taken over the responsibility from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to be the club’s main striker and captain. However, a lack of goals from the Frenchman has led to a selection of fans calling for him to be dropped, and the discovery that he missed Arsenal training has caused debate from fans about whether this could be a positive for the Gunners.

The AFC newsroom founder, Connor Humm, tweeted: No Takehiro Tomiyasu in the group training session today still. Alexandre Lacazette also absent.

Unsurprisingly fans had reacted to the news about the potential Arsenal absentees. With their opinions for each player being different.

@Trafatoni: Man, we really need a solid back up RB this summer if he is going to be this injury prone moving forwards

@_danielbarratt_: Laca being out could be a blessing in disguise… Gabi may get an Oppotunity up top.

@niallmcgirr1: Makes sense given lacazette has been absent on the pitch for the past 4 months

@OlikoniB24 : Good news on laca if that is what it ll take to bench him

@As7Afc: if laca is injured there is no better time to put martinelli up front

@LuyaliWalter: Sell this Tomiyasu when window arrives

The Gunners face Southampton on Saturday afternoon in a crucial match for the club’s Champions League hopes. And it is possible that they will have to win without Lacazette in the team.
