NEW YORK — More star power is headed to the New York Film Festival.
A Martin Scorsese-directed documentary about singer-songwriter David Johansen and a movie about cannibalistic lovers headlined by Timothee Chalamet are among the latest additions to the festival’s lineup, organizers announced Tuesday.
“Personality Crisis: One Night Only,” which Scorsese co-directed with David Tedeschi, features a 2020 Cafe Carlyle performance by Johansen, formerly of the pioneering punk band New York Dolls.
“Bones and All,” meanwhile, is a romance-horror flick directed by Luca Guadagnino that stars Chalamet and rising actress Taylor Russell.
The selections are part of the festival’s Spotlight section, which highlights significant films premiering this fall.
Also announced as a Spotlight selection was “She Said,” a drama depicting two New York Times reporters who uncovered stories that propelled the #MeToo movement. Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan star in the film, which is directed by Maria Schrader.
The selections also include Chinonye Chukwu’s “Till,” which tells the story of the mother of Emmet Till, a 14-year-old Black boy lynched in Mississippi in 1955, and Elvis Mitchell’s documentary “Is That Black Enough for You?!?” about the Black film revolution of the 1970s.
“Our aim once again with Spotlight is to engage, enlighten, and entertain,” Eugene Hernandez, the festival’s executive director, said in a statement.
The 2022 New York Film Festival runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 16.
The event’s main slate of movies was previously announced and includes “White Noise,” a black-comedy horror directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Adam Driver, as its opening night selection, and “The Inspection,” about a gay man’s experiences in the Marine Corps, as its closing night film.
