Martin Scorsese's anti-trend cabinet hue is a masterclass in timeless kitchen design

Martin Scorsese.

Often, the most timeless looks are the most classic. When you opt for a design that's been around for a while, it's a relatively sure bet that the style will survive the test of time.

This is certainly true in Martin Scorsese's kitchen, where classic details like subway tiles, stainless steel appliances, and white cabinets unite to create a space that will never go out of style. When the filmmaker took to Instagram to share an adorable shot with his dog, Mac Scorsese, we couldn't help but feel distracted by his traditional kitchen backdrop. It's a trove of timeless details that point to one central lesson:  When it comes to anti-trend decorating, keep it simple.

To create the look, Martin starts with a classic base: white kitchen cabinets. 'White kitchen cabinets are practically synonymous with timeless style,' says Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens. 'This kitchen cabinet color is perfect if you want a traditional shade that will never go out of style but still crave a contemporary feel.'

The matte finish of the cabinets furthers the endless appeal of Martin's timeless kitchen

'White matte kitchens create an atmosphere that is clean and spacious. All that matters is light and space,' adds designer Artem Kropovinsky.

'Matte's elegance comes from its simplicity. It adds polish to all the other design features, like the shiny subway tile backsplash. These finishes are practical, too. They mask smudges and fingerprints.'

White subway tiles and stainless steel appliances enhance the depth of Martin's kitchen and help to add dimension. The shininess of these finishes gives the room a modern kitchen feel. Artem says, 'We think white kitchens are always on trend. They are simple, spacious, and suitable for a modern residence. This look allows you to mix classical lines with modern finishes.'
